The traditional working properties of fine hand-made oil paints are present in Williamsburg colors, but with added consistency in engineering to meet high color and quality standards. Each Williamsburg color is milled to enhance the beauty, luminosity, and individuality of the pigment. Williamsburg Artist Oil Colors are classified into four texture categories: silky smooth, glossy, very fine textured, and coarse. Colors like Cobalts, Phthalo Blues, and Permanent Yellows, Oranges, and Reds fall into the very fine textured category. Williamsburg Cadmiums are finely milled to offer exceptional density and tinting strength while maintaining a smooth consistency. Earth colors are deliberately not over-milled to preserve the pigment's texture and crystalline facets, creating a beautiful contrast between rich masstones and brilliant undertones. Coarse textures, such as Brown Pink and Stil De Grain, provide a chunky or gritty feel, allowing light to reflect through the paint to reveal golden or mahogany undertones.
